Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

No. 4 ranked Thunderbirds too much for young WolfPack squad

QUICK FIRE
  • They fought hard for 40 minutes, but the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team was unable to keep things tight with the nationally ranked UBC Thunderbirds in an 88-48 loss at home Friday night.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Danijela Kovacevic and rookie Allison Hansen both scored nine points in the game for TRU while fellow rookie Morgan Eichenberger finished with eight rebounds as well as a pair of both assists and steals.
  • A balanced attack led the way for UBC. Keira Daly had a team-high 18 points and Olivia Weekes added 17 while the Thunderbirds shot 53 per cent from the floor as a team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The WolfPack led the game early. Olivia Randall knocked down an early three-pointer followed by a slicing drive courtesy of Kovacevic gave the 'Pack a quick 5-3 edge. That lead would be short-lived however as the T-Birds strung together a 16-2 run in the middle of the frame that featured five points from Billings and the visitors led 22-9 after ten minutes of play.
  • UBC stretched that advantage all the way 27 points before the 'Pack came storming back late in the second. Allison Hansen rattled home a couple shots while both Randall and Vollrath knocked down threes to help TRU score ten points in the final three minutes in the half. UBC led 48-24 through two quarters of play.
  • After UBC increased that lead in the third quarter, the WolfPack showed some battle in the fourth. Led by three points from Kovacevic and Jocelyn Orr, the 'Pack kept the scores in the fourth quarter to within three points until UBC pulled away late en route to the eventual 40-point victory.
NOTABLE
  • UBC is ranked No. 4 in the nation.
  • Hansen's nine points were a new career-high for the rookie forward from Magrath, AB. She went 3-4 from the floor and added a trio of free-throws.

UP NEXT
  • These same two teams will do battle tomorrow evening inside the TCC with a scheduled start time of 4:00 p.m.
