Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack put up fight on Cruz’ Senior Night

QUICK FIRE
  • KAMLOOPS – On a night where they honoured graduating guard Kelsey Cruz, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team had a never-say-die attitude in a 65-50 loss to the visiting Mount Royal Cougars.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Rookie Olivia Randall caught fire in the game to lead TRU with 15 points. In what will be the final home game of her WolfPack career, Kelsey Cruz tallied 11 points while Priyanca Sundher had eight and Sydney Vollrath seven.
  • Nora Luca scored a game-high 19 points for the Cougars while Harriette Mackenzie and Jenika Martens both added 16 apiece. Mackenzie pulled down 16 rebounds to go along with those 16 points for the double-double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was TRU that held a slim 15-14 lead after the opening ten minutes of play. Randall knocked down a pair of three-pointers to score eight points in the quarter.
  • After a WolfPack cold spell from the floor allowed MRU to take a 32-23 edge at the half, TRU came storming back in the third.
  • The 'Pack shot 46.7 per cent from the floor as a team and back-to-back three-pointers from Sundher and Vollrath allowed TRU to cut the deficit to just seven entering the fourth quarter.
  • A comeback wasn't on the cards however as the Cougars scored 18 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from TRU late.

NOTABLE
  • Cruz suited up in 71 career Canada West games for TRU and tallied 348 career points, good enough for 21st in the program's Canada West record books.
  • Randall's 15 points was a new career high for the rookie.

UP NEXT
  • TRU will wrap up their 2023-24 campaign next week when they head to Victoria for a pair of games with the UVic Vikes.
