Cold second half dooms ‘Pack against Vikes

QUICK FIRE
  • KAMLOOPS – The offence went ice-cold down the stretch for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team that fell 77-30 to the UVic Vikes in their penultimate game of 2023-24.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Rookie Kate De La Mare scored nearly a third of TRU's points with eight on the night. De La Mare also added six rebounds and a pair of blocks. Fellow rookie Grace McDonald added five in her ten minutes on the floor.
  • Abigail Becker and Karis de Paiva powered the way for UVic with 17 and 13 points respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ten offensive rebounds for the Vikes in the first quarter allowed the hosts to jump out to an early lead. Rookies Grace McDonald and Sydney Vollrath combined to score seven of the quarter's last ten points to make the score 23-12 in favour of UVic after ten minutes.
  • While TRU's offence began to flag in the second quarter but the defence held court to keep things close. Veterans Kelsey Cruz and Priyanca Sundher both had three points as the Vikes led by 18 at the half.
  • With just ten points scored in the second half, the 'Pack saw UVic pull away for the large victory.

NOTABLE
  • UVic held a big advantage on the glass with 53 rebounds to TRU's 36.
  • With a pair of blocks, De La Mare increased her season total to 29 which is good enough for the third-most in a single season in the program's Canada West history.
