Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

Career nights for Bost, Schilling lead ‘Pack to Senior Night victory

QUICK FIRE
  • Daniel Bost and Tyler Schilling saved their best for last. The pair of graduating athletes took centre stage for the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team in an 84-80 victory over the Mount Royal Cougars in what will be the final home games of the university careers.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Bost went off for 20 points in the game and knocked down a trio of threes, including one that put the game away late. Schilling matched his career high with 28 minutes played as he offered the 'Pack valuable minutes throughout the contest. Denys Bachurin went 9-17 from the floor to score a game-high 22 points for the 'Pack while Asher Mayan added another 16.
  • Holt Tomie was the leading scorer for MRU with 17 points followed closely by Sam Barnie (16) and Keivonte Watts (15).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The 'Pack held a six-point lead after a tight opening half. Bost was 5-10 from the floor for a team-high 12 points with Bachurin adding eight.
  • Mount Royal found an answer in the third. The Cougars finished the frame on a 7-1 run that included two three-pointers to knot the game 63-63 entering the fourth quarter.
  • The two teams traded buckets throughout the fourth quarter to see the game still tied at 76-76 with just under two minutes left to play. A pair of tough layups courtesy of Mayan put Bost in the position to play hero. With the score just 80-78 in favour of TRU with 20 seconds remaining, Bost knocked down a clutch three-pointer to give TRU a five-point lead. After Mount Royal scored and fouled, Schilling knocked down a free throw to ensure that the final four points in TRU's four-point victory were scored by the graduating duo.

NOTABLE
  • With the win, TRU keeps their CW postseason hopes alive as they now hold a record of 6-12 and are two games out of a playoff spot with two games in-hand on both the 8-12 MRU Cougars and UFV Cascades.
