Derkach sets new career-high but Pandas pull away from ‘Pack

QUICK FIRE
  • KAMLOOPS –For the second night in a row the No. 7 nationally-ranked Alberta Pandas handed the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team defeat in Edmonton. The hosts pulled away for an 80 to 34 victory.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Nya Derkach scored a team-high ten points for TRU, going 4-9 from the floor to do so. Danijela Kovacevic added eight points and Priyanca Sundher seven.
  • Four different players hit double-digits for Alberta with Claire Signatovich leading the way with 12.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Priyanca Sundher carried the load offensively in the first quarter for TRU with five points as the visitors hung tough with Alberta. A pair of free throws from Derkach cut the lead to just five before the Pandas finished the frame with the final four points to lead 20-11 through the opening ten minutes.
  • After Alberta started the second quarter on a strong run Sydney Vollrath knocked down a three-pointer to bring an end to that. Nya Derkach added a nice layup shortly after but the Pandas pulled away down the stretch to lead 41-18 at the half.
  • Kate De La Mare scored four of her six points in the fourth quarter as TRU battled throughout the contest.

NOTABLE
  • Derkach's ten points were the most she has scored in a game in her WolfPack career.

UP NEXT
  • TRU will return to Kamloops next weekend for the final home games of their 2023-24 campaign.
