Northrup named WolfPack’s head coach, strength and conditioning

KAMLOOPS – In an incredibly exciting addition for the department, Lisa Northrup has been appointed head coach, strength and conditioning for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack.

WolfPack Manager of High Performance Sport, Scott Clark, is pleased to welcome Northrup to Kamloops.

"Lisa comes highly recommended from colleagues that have worked with her in the past," said Clark. "We look forward to Lisa bringing strong leadership to our strength and condition program through her excellent communication and collaboration skills as well as the ability to help student-athletes achieve outstanding results."

Bringing with her nearly 20 years of experience as a strength and conditioning coach, Northrup has gained a diverse background in sport with previous roles including private coach for professional and national level athletes, high performance manager for a national sport organization, and supervisor of fitness services among many others.

"I'm incredibly excited to be joining the WolfPack and Thompson Rivers University," said Northrup, who moves to Kamloops from North Vancouver. "I look forward to the prospect of making a positive impact and supporting the student-athletes in their pursuits both on and off the field of play."

Working with the WolfPack varsity programs, Northrup will operate out of TRU's state-of-the-art Sports Legacy Fund High Performance Training Centre. Northrup will oversee the strength and conditioning programs for all varsity teams, devising tailored programming specific to the sport and athlete needs, as well as coaching the athletes through their workouts.

Holding a plethora of degrees and certifications, including a Bachelor of Science with a major in Kinesiology degree from Simon Fraser University and diploma in Sports Nutrition from the International Olympic Committee, Northrup has experience working with elite-level athletes across multiple sports.

Northrup has spent time as both a strength and conditioning coach at UBC Okanagan and as the performance department manager at Fortius Sport & Health.

Having started with the WolfPack in early July, Northrup will hit the ground running with the 'Pack as student-athletes begin to arrive back in Kamloops to begin training for the upcoming season in August.

"I'm grateful to the leadership team for providing me this fantastic opportunity to contribute to the vibrant sports community here," said Northrup. "It's an honour to get to work alongside the highly-skilled and dedicated coaches and athletics staff."
