Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack

Last second goal sinks WolfPack in loss to No. 2 Thunderbirds

QUICK FIRE
  • In a story that is becoming all too familiar to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team, a last-minute goal from the opposition denied them a share of the points in a 1-0 loss at the hands of the UBC Thunderbirds despite a strong complete team defensive effort.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Goalkeeper Olivier Jumeau was outstanding for TRU, making six saves in the game including several spectacular efforts.
  • Chris Lee scored the goal for UBC with Luke Norman providing the assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was scoreless at the half despite both teams creating quality scoring chances.
  • UBC's best effort came in the 21st minute when Joven Mann unleashed a low, powerful shot from just outside the box that Jumeau did well to steer around the post.
  • The WolfPack's best chance of the game came off the head of Jonathan Rinaldi in the 25th minute of play. Mikkel Rosenlund whipped in a ball perfectly onto the head of Rinaldi but his leaping effort was powered just wide.
  • The second half was the story of Jumeau and a heroic WolfPack defensive effort.
  • The fifth-year goalkeeper came up huge in the 69th minute. Marcus Puhalj played a ball to Max Comsia who was able to flick it into the path of the onrushing Norman but his effort from inside the 18-yard box was stopped by a sprawling Jumeau.
  • In the 75th minute Jumeau stepped up once again with a massive sprawling save to deny Henri Godbout from the edge of the 18-yard box.
  • The tie wasn't mean to be for the WolfPack however, as the T-Birds stole victory in the third minute of extra time. Norman found Lee who got the ball out of feet quickly and stung a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

NOTABLE
  • TRU is now 1-7-1 on the season while the Thunderbirds climb to 6-0-2.
  • The game was the third in a row that a valiant WolfPack effort came up just shy in extra time.

UP NEXT
  • TRU will remain at home tomorrow night when they face the UVic Vikes at 7:30 p.m. inside Hillside Stadium.
