Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack roll to dominant victory over Cascades

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's soccer team dominated the game from start to finish to earn their first win of the season in style with a 4-0 victory over the UFV Cascades Saturday.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • For the second night in a row TRU opened the scoring early off of a corner kick. Bella Geremia sent in a ball that bounced off numerous legs in an 18-yard box scramble before Grether was able to power a thunderous volley into the back of the net.
  • The 'Pack kept up the pressure throughout the remainder of the half but weren't able to add to their lead until the 68th minute of action. Rookie Hannah Dhillon sent a pass that was perfectly placed into the path of La Rotta who made no mistake to send the ball into the top right corner.
  • The WolfPack's insurance marker came just minutes later when Chun headed forward a pass to an open space behind the UFV defence where Baird was able to outpace the defenders and neatly tuck the ball into the back of the net.
  • La Rotta put the finishing touches on the victory with her second of the night in the 80th minute of play.

NOTABLE
  • The win was TRU's second in Canada West play against the Cascades. After starting their time in the league 0-9-0 against UFV, they are now 2-0-1 in their last three meetings.
  • TRU out-shot UFV 13-0 on the night.
  • Grether's goal moved her into a tie with both Chantal Gammie and Marisa Mendonca for the most career regular season CW goals in program history. All three players have scored 9 times for the 'Pack.
  • The goals for La Rotta were the first of her Canada West career.
  • TRU moves to 1-2-0 on the season with the win while the Cascades fall to 0-2-0.

QUOTABLE (TRU head coach, Mark Pennington)
  • I thought we played well, we really went came out on the front foot. They're always a plucky team that can cause you problems on the counterattack so we wanted to put the game to bed.
  • Juli scored the first two goals of her career so really happy for her, Ainsley had a goal and an assist so a really good performance from her. Everybody was really good, I don't think anyone put a foot wrong. It was a good performance from the girls after a disappointing result last night so we'll take that and look ahead to next weekend.
  • Juli does what she does, she's a really dynamic player. I thought Hannah Dhillon worked really hard to get us chances and free kicks and I was really impressed with her. I thought Sophia Branby was really good in the first half too so I thought a lot of the rookies were good.
  • It's always a worry that you come out a little flat after a heartbreaking result the night before but I thought the girls did really well to get themselves ready for the game, they obviously did really well from a prehab and rehab perspective and they came out dominant and on the front foot.

UP NEXT
  • TRU will hit the road next weekend for a game against the UNBC Timberwolves in Prince George on Friday before facing the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver on Sunday.
