Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team has their second to last home weekend of the season on the horizon as they are set to host both the TWU Spartans and UVic Vikes inside the TCC.

Taking on the Spartans (4-7) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and the Vikes (10-0) on Saturday at 6:00 p.m., the games will be critical ones in the Canada West standings. Currently in sole possession of third place in the Pacific Division with a record of 6-6, the 'Pack will be hoping to cement their place in the postseason.

With CW adopting a new playoff format this season, the WolfPack's current ranking of Pacific 3 would see them earn the fifth seed and face off with the 12th seed in the first round of the playoffs.

TRU split a pair of games last weekend. On Friday night they hung tough before eventually falling to the UBC Thunderbirds by a score of 81-61 and then bounced back with an important 83-74 victory over the UFV Cascades. That victory gave TRU their one game lead over UFV in the standings.

TWU and UVic met twice in Victoria last weekend with the Vikes picking up both wins.

The WolfPack will be looking for a measure of revenge against the Spartans after TWU won both games that these teams played earlier this season in Langley.

Saturday night's game will be the first time this season that the WolfPack face the Vikes. UVic won both matches that the teams played last season.

3 Things

1: Thursday night the women's basketball team will be collecting cash donations for the annual Shoot for the Cure campaign at both the women's and men's games.

2: The games will serve as the penultimate weekend of basketball action inside the TCC.

3: Papa Murphy's will be serving up pizza inside the TCC all season long.

By The Numbers

25: WolfPack forward Cyrus Harrison scored a regular season career-high 25 points in the 'Pack's win over UFV.

3: The Vikes have won the last three Canada West championships in a row.

848: With 848 career points to his name, Asher Mayan is close to becoming just the fifth player in program history to crack the 900 point mark.
