Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack battle back but can’t overcome Timberwolves in McDonald’s School Day Game

QUICK FIRE
  • They weren't short on fight, but the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team couldn't overcome a hot-shooting UNBC Timberwolves squad in a 76-60 loss in front of a rowdy McDonald's School Day Game crowd Friday afternoon.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Danijela Kovacevic was 5-8 from the floor en route to 15 points in the second-to-last home game of her illustrious WolfPack career. Priyanca Sundher and Kate De La Mare both added 13 points apiece. Both Sundher and De La Mare were 3-5 from beyond-the-arc.
  • Amrit Manak was the story for UNBC, knocking down five three-pointers to score 20 points. Both Svetlana Boykova and Viktoriia Filatova scored 16 for the Timberwolves with Boykova grabbing 12 rebounds for the double-double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter couldn't have been closer. A free throw from Kovacevic gave the 'Pack the first three-point lead of either team with the score 12-9 in favour of TRU halfway through the frame. The teams traded points throughout the rest of the frame. Boykova for UNBC and Allison Hansen for TRU both nailed a three-pointer in the final minute of the frame to make the score 20-18 in favour of the 'Pack after ten minutes of play. TRU was paced by Hansen with five points and Koppes with four while Boykova and Filatova led UNBC with seven and six points respectively.
  • The second quarter belonged to UNBC. The visitors went 7-9 from beyond-the-arc to explode for a 28-point frame. Manak knocked down four by herself en route to a ridiculous 17 points over the ten-minute second quarter. UNBC held a 46-31 edge at the halftime break.
  • A low-scoring third quarter saw the Timberwolves enter the fourth and final frame with a 16-point edge.
  • The WolfPack did all that they could to erase that deficit in the fourth. TRU started the frame on a 12-2 run that saw De La Mare pour in eight points to cut the lead to just six with five minutes left to go. That was as close as the 'Pack would come however as yet another Manak three halted the TRU run and allowed the visitors to regain momentum and comfortably see out the game.
