WolfPack hang tough with Golden Bears in road defeat

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's volleyball team will be coming back to Kamloops with a split against the No. 2 team in the country after they were defeated 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-21) by the Alberta Golden Bears Saturday night in Edmonton.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Sam Flowerday hit .423 per cent on the night to rack up 13 kills on 26 attacks. Matthew Hamilton added 11 kills of his own. Walker Sodaro recorded 27 assists while Mason Sodaro had four assisted blocks.
  • Isaac Heslinga was dominant for Alberta with 19 kills while Dylan Martens added 13. Luke Weddell racked up 34 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In an extremely competitive opening set, the Bears squeaked out a 25-23 win. Heslinga paced Alberta with seven kills on just 13 attempts. Three kills in four points from Flowerday gave the 'Pack the lead at 23-22 but Alberta was able to get back on serve and then take the set thanks to a pair of blocks. Flowerday had five kills in the frame while Hamilton added four.
  • After Alberta ran away with the second by a score of 25-18, the WolfPack rallied in the third. Flowerday did his best to keep the 'Pack alive with six kills but the Golden Bears took a five-point lead at 19-14 and were able to see out the set by a score of 25-21.
NOTABLE
  • After a win on Friday, TRU split the weekend with No. 2 ranked Alberta.
  • The WolfPack are 4-10 on the season and are tied with the MRU Cougars for the tenth and final playoff spot.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach, Pat Hennelly)
  • Solid effort tonight from Flowerday and Hamilton, we fell just short in the first set.
  • Credit to Heslinga for having a great night.
UP NEXT
