Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack come on late in tough battle with No. 5 UBC

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's volleyball team got better as the night went on but were unable to secure a set in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-23) loss to the UBC Thunderbirds
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Matthew Hamilton had an efficient night for the 'Pack with 11 kills from 16 attacks. Rylan Ibbetson added another nine kills as well as a pair of block assists. Rookie libero Brandon Johnson finished the night with six digs, several of which were of the spectacular variety.
  • Gavin Moes powered the TBird attack with 16 kills and a pair of aces in the match. Mason Greves had 36 assists for UBC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After UBC took the first set in convincing fashion, the 'Pack went toe-to-toe with the Birds in the second and third.
  • The turning point in the second came with the WolfPack down 17-11. TRU ripped off a 7-1 run that featured a pair of kills from Ibbetson and a block from Jakob Leinemann and Walker Sodaro to tie the match at 18-18. It was the Thunderbirds that got the better of things down the stretch however as they pulled out the 25-22 victory.
  • The third set couldn't have been closer. The teams traded points to 20-20 before back-to-back kills from Hamilton and Sam Flowerday gave TRU the first two-point lead of the set. From there the Thunderbirds ripped off four-straight points and while the WolfPack fought off one set point they couldn't get back even as UBC took the set and the match.
NOTABLE
  • The WolfPack are now 4-11 on the season as they continue to battle for a playoff spot in a tight Canada West postseason race.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach, Pat Hennelly)
  • "Tough night to get any rhythm going."
  • "Matthew Hamilton had a great night but we struggled with the block and defence. UBC played a solid game to their credit."
UP NEXT
  • These two teams will be back in action tomorrow evening in a game that gets underway at 6:00 p.m. in Vancouver.
