Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack reverse-sweep Griffins for first win of 2025-26

QUICK FIRE
  •  A bounce-back effort from the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's volleyball team saw them earn their first victory of the season with a 3-1 (25-27, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19) win over the MacEwan Griffins in Edmonton.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • It was Alex Howard again leading the way for TRU with 17 kills in the match. Aiden Goetz, making his season debut after missing last weekend due to injury, added eight kills. Walker Sodaro added 40 assists and six digs.
  • Jared Robert paced the Griffins with 12 kills. Fabian Breitenbach added eight kills of his own while Kenneth Ang had 28 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After MacEwan took an incredibly close first set, the WolfPack responded to win the next three-straight.
  • With the score tied 18-18 late in the second, Goetz put down a kill that sparked a quick 4-2 WolfPack run to put TRU up 22-20. A block from brothers Mason and Walker Sodaro combined with a Rylan Ibbetson ace gave TRU set point where Howard was able to finish the frame with a big swing.
  • The WolfPack carried that momentum forward into the third set where they hit .387 per cent as a team, buoyed by four kills from Goetz and three from Howard to run away with the 25-17 victory.
  • A dominant service run late in the fourth put the game away. Ibbetson fired in three-straight aces to bust the game open at 21-17 in favour of the 'Pack. Howard was able to put down the game-winning kill to send TRU to the set and match victory.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach Pat Hennelly)
  • It was a solid road win tonight. Walker Sodaro ran an efficient offence adding three blocks at the net. Alex Howard had a solid game serving, Passing and attacking. Aiden Goetz in his first action of the season provided an excellent spark offensively.
