Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack push Huskies to five sets in narrow defeat

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's volleyball team took the Saskatchewan Huskies the distance inside the TCC Saturday night but came up just shy in a 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12) loss.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Rookie Daniel Hitchens had his best game so far as a member of the 'Pack, recording 19 kills while adding four blocks and ten digs. Alex Howard added another 11 to his Canada West leading total of 74 while Lincoln Wagner had eight through the middle. Walker Sodaro recorded a team-high six blocks to along with 40 assists on the night.
  • Emmett Graham with 14 and Isaiah Mamer with 12 led the Saskatchewan offence.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • While Hitchens came out firing with four kills and Walker Sodaro added a pair of aces it was the Huskies that took the opening set by a tally of 25-18.
  • The 'Pack battled back in the second and claimed their first set victory of the weekend with a tight 25-23 win as Hitchens had six kills and Howard four. The teams traded points all the way to 19-19 before a kill and a pair of blocks from Hitchens combined with a Howard ace gave TRU the 23-19 edge. From there TRU was able to see out the set 25-23.
  • After the teams traded sets three and four it all came down to the fifth and final frame.
  • Hitchens had three kills and Britain Ward two but the visitors snatched a two-point lead at 11-9 and never surrendered it en route to the 15-12 victory.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack assistant coach Reece Wilson)
  • It hurts to lose in five but I thought the guys fought it out as best they could. Alex Howard continues to be great for us and Daniel Hitchens was awesome in the first full match of his U SPORTS career so hopefully he continues to grow.

NOTALBE
  • Howard, a product of Merritt, leads the conference with 74 kills this season.
  • Walker Sodaro and Brandon Johnson are first and second in the conference with 50 and 44 digs respectively.

UP NEXT
  • The 'Pack will remain in Kamloops and get set to host the UBC Thunderbirds next weekend inside the TCC.
