WolfPack hang tough with No. 4 T-Birds before fading late

QUICK FIRE
  • A young Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team kept the No. 4 ranked UBC Thunderbirds within reach for much of the night in a 57-32 loss on the road Saturday.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Kylee Koppes led the way offensively for TRU with eight points and three steals in the game. Olena Vasylenko, Allison Hansen and Micah Ramsay all added six apiece. Vasylenko also recorded five steals and three assists on the night.
  • Olivia Weekes and Jade Huynh both scored 11 points for UBC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Points were at a premium early on in the night. Vasylenko had four of the WolfPack's five points in the opening frame but the WolfPack defence forced UBC into making eight turnovers as they trailed by just six points after the opening ten minutes.
  • After the UBC stretched that advantage to 12 points at the halftime break, the WolfPack went toe-to-toe with UBC in the third.
  • Rookie Micah Ramsay had six points while Koppes and Allison Hansen both added three as the WolfPack's 14 points in the quarter matched UBC's 14 to send the teams into the final quarter with UBC leading 39-27.
  • The WolfPack couldn't keep the pace with UBC late however as the T-Birds were able to pull away for the 57-32 victory.

NOTABLE
  • The WolfPack fall to 0-3 on the season while UBC, who are ranked fourth in the nation, improve to 4-0.
     
UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will hit the road again next weekend as they get set for a pair of games in Edmonton against the MacEwan Griffins.
