Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack pick up sweep in Saskatchewan

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team will be coming back from Saskatchewan with a pair of wins after they swept the Regina Cougars 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-21) Saturday night.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The WolfPack pulled out a tight first set with some clutch play late. With the match knotted up at 20-20, Erlalelitepe and Gent both fired in a kill followed up by an Erlalelitepe ace to give TRU the 23-20 edge. From there a Regina service error and a Maria Dancheva kill allowed the 'Pack to take the 25-22 victory.
  • TRU led big for much of the second set but needed to hold off a late Cougars' run for the victory. Back-to-back kills from Cressy and Erlalelitepe gave the WolfPack a commanding advantage at 19-14. TRU improved on that even more as a pair of kills from Gent allowed them to pull out to a 24-18 advantage. A late Regina rally made things interesting before a service error from the hosts gave TRU the set victory at 25-22.
  • The WolfPack saw out the match thanks in large part to a 6-2 run in the middle of the third set. With the match tied at 14-14; Ward, Dancheva, Gent and Erlalelitepe all had kills and a big block courtesy of Meldrum and Dancheva saw TRU take a 20-16 edge. From there the 'Pack were able to see out the match for the 25-21 victory.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach Chad Grimm)
  • Two wins on the road is always good thing. I didn't think we executed poorly tonight but we looked just a little tired and struggled to get to the finish line.
  • Credit to the team, they hung in there. I don't think this is ever an easy time of year, it's a lot of weekends playing in a row and then add in travel. So credit to them for hanging in there and getting the job done against a scrappy Regina team.
  • Overall, two wins in the bank on the way home is a good thing.

NOTABLE
  • The result moves TRU to 6-2 on the season where they are currently second in the conference.
  • The win was TRU's sixth-straight over the Cougars.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will head back out on the road next weekend when they travel to Kelowna to face the UBC Okanagan Heat.
