Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack complete sweep over No. 4 ranked UBC

QUICK FIRE
  • For the first time in program history the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team will be bringing a pair of wins back from UBC's point grey campus after they knocked off the No. 4 nationally ranked Thunderbirds by a score of 73-68.
  • This is the second time in program history that the 'Pack have swept UBC in a weekend – the first coming in 2013-14 – and the first time that TRU has accomplished that feat on the road.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Jayden Stephens was again the leading scorer for TRU with 18 points and seven rebounds on the night. Dami Farinloye added 13 points while Jayden Green racked up 12 points and Thomas Olsen finished with 11.
  • Gus Goerzen led the Thunderbirds with 15 points. Nikola Guzina and Karan Aujila both added ten.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After outscoring UBC in the final frame of Friday night's action, TRU picked up right where they left off in the return matchup. Fifth-year forward Thomas Olsen led the way at the half with 11 points on a perfect 3-of-3 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
  • The WolfPack offence was explosive in the first half, scoring 49 points and maintaining the lead throughout. Jayden Green scored the final three points of the half to send TRU into the break up 14 points.
  • Reuben Wright kicked off the second half with a three-pointer and another soon after from Steve Stinson saw the WolfPack lead by as many as 19 points before the Thunderbirds started to chip away.
  • After cutting deep into the WolfPack lead, a pair of three-pointers late from Goerzen in the final minute of the game cut that advantage all the way down to three.Tthe WolfPack refused to let the game slip away however as Stephens knocked down a pair of clutch free-throws down the stretch to put the game away.

NOTABLE
  • With 24 points-per-game so far this season, Stephens is fourth in the conference in scoring.
  • The win was TRU's fifth over UBC in Canada West play since 2005, and second this weekend.
  • TRU moves to 3-0 on the season with the win and are one of just three undefeated teams left in the Canada West conference. The WolfPack stand alongside last season's Canada West champion Calgary Dinos and U SPORTS National champion UVic Vikes.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will head out on the road again next weekend as they travel to Edmonton for a pair of games with the MacEwan Griffins.
