Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

Difficult third frame too much for WolfPack to overcome in first loss of 2025-26

QUICK FIRE
  • The third quarter proved to be the difference in a battle between nationally ranked opponents on Friday night in Kamloops as the No. 3 UVIC Vikes defeated the No. 10 Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men's basketball team 71-58.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Jayden Green scored eight of this team-high 14 in the final quarter, finishing with three rebounds and three steals as well. Steve Stinson tallied ten while both Jayden Stephens and Cason Scott finished the night with nine.
  • Cameron Slaymaker was all over the scoresheet for UVIC, dropping ten points, seven rebounds, four assists, and five steals in the win. Both Ethan Boag and Geoffrey James scored 13 points to lead UVic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Six different Vikes found the scoresheet in the first quarter as the visitors led 15-13 after one. Steve Stinson led the way for the 'Pack with a deep three and a mid-range jumper for five in the quarter. Cason Scott knocked down his only look in the frame, driving to the hoop with a spin-move before converting the and-one opportunity.
  • TRU survived a couple of runs from the Vikes in the second quarter and ended with a 5-1 run of their own to cut the deficit to just six at break, 33-27. UVIC led by as many as 10 in the quarter before TRU found their range, Dami Farinloye had five in the frame, including a late contested three. A hard defensive effort led to five TRU steals in the second.
  • Basketball is a game of runs and that was exemplified in the third quarter. First it was the Vikes going on a 11-0 run to open up a 20 point advantage. Then TRU responded with a 10-0 run of their own. But the Vikes finished the quarter with seven-straight, including four from Renoldo Robinson at the charity stripe to lead 56-39 after three.
  • TRU would outscore the Vikes in the final quarter 19-15, but it wouldn't be enough as they fell 71-58. Green finished strong with eight points in the final frame while Stephens added five in the quarter as well.

NOTABLE
  • The loss was TRU's first in Canada West play this season. The WolfPack remain first place in the Pacific Division with a record of 7-1, followed closely by UVic who sit at 6-2.
  • UVic leads the conference and is second in the nation with 92 points scored per game, TRU held them to their lowest total all season with 71.

UP NEXT
