Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

Green sets new career-high as WolfPack fall to Cascades

QUICK FIRE
  • They fought from behind to make it close late but the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team couldn't close the gap in a 72-66 loss to the Fraser Valley Cascades Friday night in Abbotsford.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Jayden Green powered the WolfPack offence with 20 points. Jayden Stephens added another 16 while also tallying four assists.
  • Dario Lopez paced the Cascades with 17 points on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Fraser Valley jumped out to an early lead, outscoring TRU 21-10 in the first quarter. Steve Stinson knocked down a three-pointer with three seconds left in the frame to keep the WolfPack close.
  • Six points from Green in the second quarter allowed the WolfPack to make a large dent in that deficit. The WolfPack poured in 21 points and a Dami Farinloye layup with 40 seconds left got TRU to within three only for Dilveer Randhawa to respond for the Cascades and give the hosts a 36-31 edge at the halftime break.
  • The teams traded momentum throughout the third quarter. After Fraser Valley started the frame with nine-straight points, TRU outscored UFV 20-9 down the stretch thanks in large part to eight points from Green. Once again Fraser Valley had an answer however as they scored the final four points in the third to lead 58-51 heading into the fourth.
  • Another 9-0 Cascades' run to start the final frame left TRU with a mountain to climb to get back into the contest. The WolfPack embarked upon a 15-4 run capped off by a Stephens' three to bring the score within five points in the final minute of play. That was as close as TRU would come however as UFV was able to hold on for the 72-66 victory.

NOTABLE
  • The result moves TRU to a record of 7-3 on the season. Good enough for third place in the Pacific Division.
  • Green's 20 points were a new career-high with the WolfPack for the Fresno, California product.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will get another shot at the Cascades tomorrow when they face UFV in a game that gets underway at 6:00 p.m. in Abbotsford.
