WolfPack head into postseason with sweep of Bobcats

QUICK FIRE
  • The season finale weekend ended in a complete sweep for the Thompson Rivers University women's volleyball team, who took down the Brandon University Bobcats 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-18) Saturday afternoon in the Tournament Capital Centre.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Rida Erlalelitepe led the 'Pack with a game-high 12 kills to go along with her seven digs and pair of serving aces. Keira Gent tallied six kills, three digs and her own pair of service aces tonight. Hailey Ward added five kills and two solo blocks to the WolfPack scoresheet. Kate Lamothe and Hadley Schmidt also each added a pair of aces with Schmidt recording 25 assists.
  • Kallie Ball led the scoring for the Bobcats tonight with a team-high eight kills to go along with her three digs and a serving ace. Nerissa Dyer added seven kills to Brandon's scoresheet tonight. Avery Burgar tallied 11 digs, six kills, a pair of block assists and a pair of serving aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first set started with an ace courtesy of Ball before seeing an exchange of attack and service errors from both teams. The only run of the set came from TRU in a 3-0 run that gave them the lead 20-16 thanks to a solo block from Hailey Ward and an ace from Gent. From there the two teams went point-for-point before a kill from Gent won the 'Pack the set 25-21.
  • The second set saw the WolfPack hit a quick 5-0 punctuated by a solo block courtesy of Sasha Haldane. After a quick timeout from the Bobcats, they were able to go on a 7-0 run of their own, spearheaded by two kills from Ball and an ace from Burgar. A plethora of service errors had the teams going point-for-point again until an ace from Hadley Schmidt sealed set point 25-23.
  • The third set got under way courtesy of another ace from Burgar and then a run from the Bobcats put them up 8-4. After a quick timeout from TRU, they were able to go on a 6-0 run accentuated by a kill and an ace courtesy of Keira Gent. An ace from Abby Mohrbutter gave 'Pack the edge 23-17. Two back-to-back kills from Haldane and Lamothe gave the WolfPack the set 25-18.

NOTABLE
  • With the win TRU secures fifth place in the conference standings after finishing the season at 13-7.
  • TRU's 13 wins ties this 2024-25 squad for the second-most in program history.
  • The WolfPack were 9-1 at home this season.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach, Chad Grimm)
  • "It was a good game. We had a different lineup to give some players the night off and everyone that came in contributed and did their job. And that ultimately led to the result."
  • ON WHAT THE PREPARATION FOR THE PLAYOFFS LOOKS LIKE "It's going to start with some rest and recovery and the chance to catch up some schoolwork. We'll start gearing up for UBC. Obviously the last year in the playoffs and this season in the league it wasn't a great experience so we'll have to prepare to put on a good showing and play like we know we can and let the chips fall where they may."

UP NEXT
  • The 'Pack have earned a bye through the first round of the playoffs. They will head to Vancouver to face the UBC Thunderbirds in the CW quarter-finals Feb. 27 to March 2.
