Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

Regular season finished, ‘Pack gear up for playoffs

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team more than held their own Saturday night, leading for over 15 minutes of the game before eventually falling to the U SPORTS No. 1 ranked UVic Vikes 73-64.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • In the final regular season game of his WolfPack career Asher Mayan poured in 21 points while also adding eight rebounds. Dami Farinloye and Cyrus Harrison also hit double digits in scoring with 11 and 10 points respectively.
  • Renoldo Robinson powered the Vikes' attack with 22 points. Ryan Gallager Geoffrey James both added 11 points for UVic.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UVic earned an early 22-14 lead after the first quarter thanks in large part to seven points from James and six from Robinson. Harrison led the way for TRU with five points in the opening frame.
  • TRU responded in the second. Asher Mayan tallied nine points in the frame as the WolfPack not only erased that early deficit but snagged a 36-33 lead heading into the halftime break thanks to a late three-pointer from Evan Smith.
  • A 20-19 edge in the third quarter saw the 'Pack increase that lead heading into the fourth. Mayan and Harrison both had five points to help TRU lead by four with ten minutes to go.
  • The upset wasn't meant to be however, as the Vikes caught fire in the fourth. UVic tallied 21 points and held TRU to just eight in the final frame to take the game.
NOTABLE
  • While the WolfPack advanced to the playoffs in the post-COVID 2021-22 season, every team made it to the playoffs that year making this the first time that the 'Pack have qualified since 2019-20.
  • Mayan finishes his regular season career with the WolfPack with 943 points, good enough for fifth in the program record book.
UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack are on a bye next weekend – the final weekend of CW regular season play - meaning they will watch the scoreboards from across the league to find out their postseason opponent.
