Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack out-chance Cascades but fall on the road

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's soccer team carried play throughout the game but just couldn't find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss to the UFV Cascades Saturday night.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Both Esi Lufo and Kat Stewart were threatening for TRU, firing four shots towards goal apiece.
  • Kenzie Fitzgerald scored for UFV with Camryn Lyon supplying the assist. Alana Madec earned the shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • TRU couldn't find a goal in the opening half but it wasn't for a lack of trying.
  • Just two minutes into the contest Esi Lufo set up Stella Klippenstein in the box but her shot towards net was blocked by a leaping UFV defender.
  • More WolfPack pressure resulted in a pair of back-to-back corner kicks in the 28th minute. Rookie Nat Seiz delivered both set-pieces into the box and Lufo got a foot on both but twice her attempts went just wide.
  • After weathering WolfPack pressure for the entirety of the opening half, UFV scored with their first shot on goal of the game.
  • A corner kick in the 69th minute was sent in by Lyon and Fitzgerald was able to rise highest to head a ball towards net that just crept past the goalline.
  • TRU threw everything but the kitchen sink towards net from that point forward. The 'Pack registered five corner kicks and three shots towards target in the latter stages of the match as they dominated play, but were unable to crack Madec.

NOTABLE
  • TRU had 12 shots to UFV's 3.
  • The WolfPack also head a severe advantage in corner kicks with nine to Fraser Valley's one.
  • TRU moves to 5-5 on the season, good enough for third in the Pacific Division with 15 points.

UP NEXT
  • Another road trip is ahead for a TRU squad that will travel to face the UVic Vikes (Friday, Oct. 3) and the UBC Thunderbirds (Saturday, Oct. 4) next weekend.
