Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack out-chance Spartans early but fall on the road

QUICK FIRE
  • They played some of their best soccer of the season but the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team couldn't bounce back after conceding early in the second half in a 3-0 loss to the TWU Spartans Friday night.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Forward Lachlan Will was a threat throughout the entire match for TRU, firing three shots on goal and coming close to scoring his second goal of the season.
  • Emmanuel Dan-Adokiene scored twice for TWU with Jace Wiebe also tallying.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Looking for a breakthrough victory, the WolfPack came out of the gates flying. TRU tested the TWU keeper just four minutes into the match when Kaleb Voth found Abdel Coulibaly inside the 18-yard box. The WolfPack's leading scorer was able to shed a defender and fire a shot on net only for it to be stopped by Peter Rogenthien.
  • Will earned his first clear-cut chance in the 20th minute.
  • A press forward from the WolfPack midfield forced a turnover deep in the Spartan's end. Minwoo Kang sent the ball over to Will who beat a defender and unleashed a left-footed effort from the edge of the box that Rogenthien was able to hold onto.
  • The 'Pack continued to put together chances in the first half but were unable to find the back of the net as the frame ended 0-0.
  • Two Trinity Western goals early in the second half turned the game on its head.
  • Dan-Adokiene opened the scoring by finishing off a penalty kick and then scored again just ten minutes later to flip the script from the first half and give the Spartans a lead they wouldn't surrender en route to the victory.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach John Antulov)
  • "I think our first half was probably one of our best halves of the season so far, the guys came out strong and I was really happy. Then it was the same thing, we made a couple mistakes, got beat in transition and the next thing you know we are chasing the game again. We settled down a bit and started to play again but it's difficult when you are trying to chase the game."
  • "It was different from yesterday, I was really happy with the overall effort but we have to figure out how to play a clean game for 90 minutes."
  • "It's what's been happening, when that first goal goes in we can't let it lead to a second one. We have to be mentally stronger and just make proper decisions on the field in those key moments. "We've got a good squad and have shown we can play."

UP NEXT
  • TRU will head back to Kamloops and get ready to host a pair of games next weekend – Sept. 12 and 13 – when they welcome the Lethbridge Pronghorns and Calgary Dinos to town.
