Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack fall to No. 1 ranked T-Birds

QUICK FIRE
  • A pair of goals on either side of the halftime break were enough to send the U SPORTS No. 1 ranked UBC Thunderbirds to a 4-0 victory over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team Friday night.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Toran Rutherford made four saves in net for the WolfPack while Lachlan Will and Kaelin Nguyen both had shots towards goal.
  • Max Comsia scored a pair of goals for UBC with both Eric Kim and Markus Rukavina adding another.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was played in a torrential downpour right from kick-off to the final whistle.
  • The first big action of the game came in the 13th minute of play when Rutherford raced sharply off his line to close the angle and deny a shot from Luke Norman.
  • Ben Finley played a dangerous ball into the box that UBC was able to clear in the 24th minute and then the Thunderbirds found the opener not long after. Godbout cut into the box before laying the ball off to Comsia who made no mistake in finding the back of the net.
  • The hard work of Kaelin Nguyen gave the 'Pack another dangerous chance in the 36th minute but again it was the Thunderbirds who struck when Comsia finished off a corner kick goal to give the visitors a 2-0 lead at the halftime break.
  • Rukavina and Kim tallied in the second half for the T-Birds and while Noel Poole had a good look off a header chance late, the WolfPack were unable to break the shutout.
NOTABLE
  • The game was between the top two teams in the Pacific Division standings. TRU remains in second place with a record of 6-4 and a .600 winning percentage, placing them just ahead of the 5-3-2 UVic Vikes and their mark of .567 per cent. UBC remains undefeated on the year with a record of 10-0-2.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will remain in Kamloops and get set for another game tomorrow inside Hillside Stadium when they host the UNBC Timberwolves in a game that gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
