Led by legendary head coach Mike Bartam, the 1999-2000 University College of the Cariboo Sun Demons women’s soccer team put together a dream season. The group of 18 student-athletes took on all challengers, going a perfect 13 wins with 0 losses to capture the first Canadian College Athletic Association (CCAA) title in team history.
Dominant from beginning to end, the Sun Demons outscored the opposition by a tally of 54-4 during their undefeated campaign.
The team captured the British Columbia College Athletic Association (BCCAA) title in resounding fashion. UCC outscored their opponents 38-2 en route to securing a perfect 8-0 record. Haley Bartram, Kelly MacDonald and Sandra Redford were all named BCCAA First Team All-Stars with Ran Basran earning a spot on the second team. Head coach Mike Bartam earned the BCCAA Coaching Excellence Award.
They continued that run into the BCCAA Championship tournament where they defeated the TWU Spartans in the semifinal and the Capilano Blues in the championship match. Ran Basran was named tournament MVP with Sandra Redford being named a Tournament All-Star.
Heading to Oshawa, ON for the CCAA National Championship tournament, the team defeated St. Thomas College 7-0, Humber College 2-1 and Medicine Hat College 2-1 on their way to the title. Lisa Bartucci, Kirstine Niemi, Sandra Redford were all named CCAA Tournament All-Stars with Bree-Ann Mailloux taking home national MVP honours.
Still inspiring teams today, the 1999-2000 UCC Sun Demons women’s soccer team set a new standard of excellence for this department, institution, and city.
