
2014 was a year to remember for Brad Gunter of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s volleyball team.
Gunter started for the National Junior men’s volleyball team in the summer and followed it up with a banner campaign for the WolfPack—leading them to their first Canada West playoff spot in two years.

In the process, the native of Courtenay, BC was named both the Canada West and CIS Player of the Year: a first for the school.
Now, Gunter is being recognized for those achievements by Sport BC.

That organization has announced its finalists for their 2014 awards and Gunter is one of three people vying for University Athlete of the Year.
His competition are UBC women’s volleyball layer Lisa Barclay and swimmer Coleman Allen.

The winner will be announced at the Sport BC Awards Banquet on March 12
th in Vancouver.
Other notable nominees for various Sport BC awards include Olympic speedskater Jessica Hewitt of Kamloops for Female Senior Athlete of the year, basketball official Steve Seibel of Kamloops for Official of the year and hockey player Shea Weber of Sicamous (and the NHL Nashville Predators) for Male Senior Athlete of the Year.
