THEY SAID IT (post match comments):
TRU head coach Kelly Shantz:
On game:" The girls played their hearts out. We knew we had to win to give ourselves a shot at that playoff spot. We fought like hell. It was a really strong performance up and down the field. Chantal Gammie got her seventh of the year in the first half. We pressured MacEwan and they turned over the ball which allowed Chantal to 'do her thing'. She pounced on the ball and drilled it high short side. We had to hang on a lot. MacEwan finished third in our league beating some good teams. They created some good chances. We defended very well for the most part. In the second half, they got a breakaway and Danielle Robertson came out and 'did her thing' sliding out to stop it. A few minutes later, good buildup and the ball went to Marlie Rittinger who fired a bullet: I thought we were going to get our second there. She drilled a low shot. That would have been a giant help. MacEwan pushed and their goal was very well taken. We threw everything we had at them the last 15 minutes. On a normal weekend, a 1-1 draw on the road, after hours on the bus is a terrific result. But it stings today as our season comes to a close. Camryn Curts was the player of the game. Tremendous leadership."
OF NOTE:
The WolfPack are eligible to have their entire team back next season. But Marlie Rittinger ( 4
th year, midfield, Ashcroft, BC) is graduating from her program and won't be returning.
