KAMLOOPS – After 630 days of quiet, the Tournament Capital Centre will once again be filled with sounds and excitement of Canada West basketball when the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball starts their 2021-22 campaign.
Hosting the UNBC Timberwolves on Friday and the UBC Okanagan Heat on Saturday, both games will get underway at 7 p.m.
Playing a trio of preseason games in Calgary as well as one home contest, the WolfPack went 1-3 in non-conference action. A close 67-66 loss to the Mount Royal Cougars and a 72-63 victory over the Langara Falcons were the highlights.
Brendan Sullivan led the way in the victory with 19 points, while
Asher Mayan – 15 points and 10 rebounds – and
Brad King – 14 points and 11 rebounds - both recorded double-doubles.
Facing a schedule of purely B.C. schools this season, the WolfPack will face the Timberwolves, Heat, UBC Thunderbirds, Fraser Valley Cascades, Trinity Western Spartans and UVic Vikes three times each in 2021-22.
The WolfPack split a pair of incredibly close games with the Timberwolves in 2019-20. TRU fell 78-76 before winning 82-77 to wrap up the weekend series in Kamloops.
It was also a split between the 'Pack and Heat in 2019-20. Playing both games in Kelowna, TRU lost 93-91 on the first night before rebounding for the 85-59 win the next.
