KAMLOOPS – The shots just wouldn't fall when they needed them the most for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team that lost 69-57 to the host UNBC Timberwolves on Saturday night.
The WolfPack were held to hitting on just 19 of the 64 shots they attempted in the game, failing to keep pace with a Timberwolves squad that was all too eager to take advantage.
The result moves the WolfPack to 2-2 on the season. For a young team that features just one returning player above his second year of eligibility, the 'Pack failed to find any consistency in the game. They were able to put together dangerous runs at times but never seriously threatened UNBC in a game that they never once held the lead.
"Yesterday I thought we played pretty well, we stuck to the gameplan and shot the ball well and the scoreboard reflected that," said second-year forward
Simon Crossfield. "Today we got away from that a little bit, I don't think our effort was as good as it could have been and that showed."
Brad King and
Brendan Sullivan both scored 14 points for the 'Pack, with King also pulling down 13 rebounds for the double-double.
Tyrell Laing had a massive night for UNBC with 27 points while fellow fifth-year guard Vova Pluzhnikov added 15.
The Timberwolves jumped out to a 23-12 lead after the first quarter and never looked back for the rest of the night. The WolfPack were able to keep the deficit around ten points for a majority of the night but were unable to get closer than a four-point margin with the score at 41-37 early in the second half.
The WolfPack will remain on the road next weekend when they travel to take on the Fraser Valley Cascades in Abbotsford.
