Perrin, Tillie to represent WolfPack at Tokyo Olympics

KAMLOOPS – Two of the most decorated names in Thompson Rivers University WolfPack history will once again take to the world's biggest stage, as Gord Perrin and Kevin Tillie will compete for Canada and France respectively at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.

Both alumni of the WolfPack men's volleyball program, the pair will each be competing in the second Olympic games of their illustrious careers after previously suiting up for their county at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Originally from Creston, B.C., Perrin played for the WolfPack from 2007-2010. During that time the outside hitter helped the 'Pack to the three-straight trips to the national championship tournament, winning bronze in 2007-08 followed by finishes of sixth in the nation in both 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Individually Perrin was named the Canada West Rookie of the Year and to the CIS All-Rookie team in 2007-08, a Canada West Second Team All-Star in 2008-09 and capped off his WolfPack career with a spot on the conference and national first all-star teams in 2009-10.

After leaving Kamloops, Perrin has excelled throughout a professional career that has included stops in Turkey, Italy, Poland, China, Brazil and Russia. A mainstay on the men's national team since 2011, Perrin is the captain of the Canadian team in Tokyo.

Overlapping with Perrin for one season with the WolfPack, Tillie wore the orange and black for two seasons from 2009-2011.

Making a big impact in his first season in Kamloops, the outside hitter was named Canada West and CIS Rookie of the Year in 2009-10. Following that up with a 2010-11 campaign that saw him earn a spot as a Canada West First Team All-Star and CIS Second Team All-Canadian, Tillie went on to transfer to the University of California-Irvine where he won two-straight NCAA Division I championships. Tillie has since played professionally in Italy, Poland and China.

With the opening ceremonies come and gone, it will be a quick start to the games for both athletes. Perrin will lead Team Canada against Italy at 5:00 p.m. tonight, July 23. Tillie and France meanwhile get their tournament underway against America tomorrow morning at 5:45 a.m.
