KAMLOOPS – A hot start to the season was cooled off last weekend for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack baseball team that fell in four-straight games on the road in Lethbridge.
After starting their season taking three wins from four contests at home against the Fraser Valley Cascades, TRU was kept out of the win column this past weekend by the Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs.
GAME 1: PBA 15, WOLFPACK 12
An absolute barnburner to get the weekend started, the Dawgs just barely outlasted the 'Pack to take a 15-12 victory. The hosts jumped out to a 14-5 lead before the WolfPack rallied with a massive seven run rally in the ninth but were just unable to pick up the victory.
Matt Coxon and
Matt Olsen both recorded a pair of RBI's for the 'Pack while
Zac Robinson took the loss on the mound after allowing six earned runs through six innings.
GAME 2: PBA 16, WOLFPACK 5
The Dawgs controlled the game in the second contest of Saturday, rolling to a 16-5 win. TRU started off strong with four runs in the first two innings but the offence faded down the stretch as PBA exploded to take the 16-5 win in just seven innings. Coxon once again put up a pair of RBI's with
Noah Wonnick,
Lucas DeJong and
Dylan Fiske adding one apiece.
Kolby Lukinchuk was the pitcher on record after allowing six runs in five innings.
GAME 3: PBA 17, WOLFPACK 10
TRU battled back late in the third game but were unable to overcome an early 8-1 deficit through the first four innings en route to a 17-10 loss.
Jacob Anker went 3-4,
Tate Larson 3-5 and Coxon recorded four RBI's with Larson and
Hunter Fanshaw also putting up pair. Fanshaw and Coxon both hit homeruns in the losing effort.
Jacob Ross surrendered 11 runs – 10 of which were earned – through six innings of work.
GAME 4: PBA 16, WOLFPACK 5
The Dawgs put the finishing touches on the weekend sweep with 21 hits and 16 runs in a seven-inning 16-5 victory. Wonnick had three RBI's as the WolfPack scored all five of their runs in the third inning.
Donavan Collier was on the mound for eight earned runs through six innings to record the loss.
Next up for the WolfPack is a weekend series against the Victoria Golden Tide set to take place in Kamloops on April 16-17.
