SEASON SO FAR
KAMLOOPS – Through four weekends of action and with four weekends left to play, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack baseball team finds themselves right in the thick of things in the Canadian College Baseball Conference.
Holding a record of 7-7, the 'Pack are currently in fifth-place in the conference but are just one game out of third place with two games in hand.
TRU has split every weekend of their season so far, picking up a pair of victories over the: Calgary Dinos, Edmonton Hawks, PBA Dawgs and a single win over the VIU Mariners in a rain-shortened series.
Second-year outfielder
Matt Olsen leads the way offensively with the third-best hitting percentage in the conference at .408. The product of Penticton has compiled four doubles and a home run en route to 16 RBI's.
Both
Zac Robinson and
Kolby Lukinchuk have started four games this season for the 'Pack, eating up 25 and 23.1 innings respectively.
Donovan Collier has compiled an ERA of just 2.65 through the 17 innings that he's pitched while
Hudson Scheres and
Jacob Fillion have both been credited with a save.
LAST WEEKEND
GAME 1: PBA 7, WOLFPACK 5
TRU was right there with the league-leading Dawgs all weekend long. A double from
Matt Olsen scored a pair of runs in the fourth, powering TRU to a 4-1 lead through the opening four innings. From there PBA rallied, tallying three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to send the hosts to a 7-5 victory.
Zac Robinson earned the opening start of the weekend and he went five strong surrendering four runs while striking out two.
Noah Wonnick and
Justin Hucul finished off the game throwing one and two innings respectively.
GAME 2: PBA 9, WOLFPACK 6
TRU rallied late in the second game but were unable to overcome a strong PBA start. The hosts jumped out to an 8-0 lead through the opening three innings.
Hunter Fanshaw crossed the plate twice late with
Carter Spencer and
Tate Larson supplying the RBI's but TRU couldn't complete the comeback.
Kolby Lukinchuk went six strong innings on the mound surrendering only three earned runs with
Andy Lee pitching two solid innings in relief.
GAME 3: WOLFPACK 9, PBA 5
TRU picked up their first win of the weekend in game three.
Manny Recchi scored a run all three times he got on base,
Josh Wright banged in three RBI's with
Matt Olsen adding a pair. In total the WolfPack compiled ten hits in the game and scored runs in five of nine innings.
Sam Jordan and
Jacob Fillion combined to earn the win on the mound. Jordan went five innings to start the game before Fillion finished things off with a dominant four inning outing that included four strike outs while allowing no earned runs.
GAME 4: WOLFPACK 3, PBA 1
TRU earned the weekend split after taking the final game of the series in what was a defensive duel. Donovan Collier earned the win after allowing just one earned run for his five innings pitched.
Manny Recchi took to the mound and recorded the save after throwing four innings of shutout baseball. A two-run double from
Matt Olsen was key in a third inning that saw TRU score all three of their runs.
TRU is off for their bye week this coming weekend. Next up for the WolfPack is a weekend series against the Victoria Golden Tide set to take place in Victoria on April 29-30.
