KAMLOOPS – For the first time this season the Thompson Rivers WolfPack baseball team will be back inside the friendly confines of NorBrock Stadium this weekend, as they are set to host the Vancouver Island University Mariners for four games.
While still early in the year, the series will be an important one with the WolfPack (3-5) and Mariners (4-7) extremely close in the CCBC standings in fifth and sixth place respectively. The action on Friday will start at 5 p.m. and on Saturday at 9 a.m.
After starting the year blitzing the Fraser Valley Cascades to take their four-game series 3-1, the WolfPack will be looking to rebound this weekend as they are coming off a rough outing in Lethbridge. TRU dropped all four games to the Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs in their last action although
Matt Coxon was a bright spot for the 'Pack with eight RBI's to his credit.
Vancouver Island split four games in a home-and-home set with Fraser Valley last weekend. VIU recorded wins of 14-0 and 8-7 before falling 10-5 and 1-0 to the Cascades.
Leading the way for TRU offensively is Coxon, who sits atop the CCBC leaderboard with three homeruns and is sixth with 10 RBI's despite playing in four fewer games than the leaders.
Jacob Anker is hitting .308 after 13 plate appearances. On the mound
Jacob Ross,
Donavan Collier and
Jacob Fillion have all picked up wins with Ross racking up 13 strikeouts.
The action can be watched live down at NorBrock or streamed online on the
WolfPack Youtube channel.
