KAMLOOPS – The visiting Vancouver Island University Mariners proved to be too much for the host Thompson Rivers WolfPack to handle as the Mariners won three of the four games that the teams played last weekend inside NorBrock Stadium.
Through four weeks of the season the WolfPack hold a record of 4-8 and are tied with the University of Calgary for sixth place in the CCBC Standings.
GAME 1: MARINERS 7, WOLFPACK 5
TRU jumped out to an early lead to start the series, but were unable to hold off a late Mariners push.
Matt Olsen and
Jacob Anker both batted in runs in the second inning as the WolfPack led 3-0 early. VIU bounced back with three of their own in the top of the sixth but a
Tate Larson double plated two for the 'Pack in the bottom half of the inning as the home team led 5-3 with three innings left. From then on out it was all VIU however, as they plated two runs in the seventh and two in the ninth to take the 7-5 win.
Zac Robinson pitched eight strong innings for TRU but picked up the loss while Anker (2), Larson (2), Olsen (1) and
Matt Richards (1) recorded RBI's.
GAME 2: MARINERS 7, WOLFPACK 3
Once again the WolfPack led early in this one, but after a first inning outburst the game was all VIU. A double from Olsen drove in
Carter Spencer and
Matt Coxon with
Marlo Spence adding another RBI as TRU led 3-0 after the first inning. The visitors scored seven runs unanswered for the 7-3 victory.
Kolby Lukinchuk struck out eight batters and allowed just four earned runs through his seven innings of work on the mound for TRU.
GAME 3: WOLFPACK 4, MARINERS 2
A great performance on the mound from
Jacob Ross led the WolfPack to victory in game three. Ross struck out nine batters through seven innings and allowed just two runs.
Hudson Scheres gave up just one hit and struck out four batter in his two innings of work to record the save. Spencer went 2-3 with an RBI and Olsen added a pair of RBI's to lead the WolfPack offence.
GAME 4: MARINERS 12, WOLFPACK 1
The fourth and final game was all VIU. The Mariners scored 12 runs and held the WolfPack to just one as they sailed away with the series victory by a tally of three games to one.
