KAMLOOPS – On the back of a complete-game effort that featured no runs allowed and ten strikeouts courtesy of
Kolby Lukinchuk, the Thompson Rivers University baseball team wrapped up their 2022 CCBC Spring season in style.
Earning wins of 7-4 and 5-0 over the Fraser Valley Cascades on the final day of their season, the WolfPack finished the year with a record of 10-18 but will head into the CCBC Championship Tournament momentum on their side. In four games over the weekend the 'Pack went 2-2, and will be among the league's hotter teams when all eight squads meet this weekend in Lethbridge to determine a conference champion.
WEEKEND WRAP-UP
GAME 1: COYOTES 10, WOLFPACK 7
Beginning their weekend by taking on the top team in the conference, the WolfPack looked well on the way to picking up the upset victory before disaster struck in the ninth inning.
Carter Spencer went 4-5 from the dish and
Tate Larson drove in two runs to help TRU jump out to a 7-3 lead heading into the ninth inning. From there it was Okanagan College however, as the Coyotes would go on to plate seven runs in the frame to take the win.
GAME 2: COYOTES 18, WOLFPACK 0
OC took the final game of the series on Friday night in dominant fashion. Three pitchers combined to stifle the WolfPack offence to no hits and the bats couldn't be stopped as the 25-5 Coyotes took the game 18-0.
GAME 3: WOLFPACK 7, CASCADES 4
TRU rebounded on Saturday morning to pick up a win against the Fraser Valley Cascades.
Zac Robinson pitched eight solid innings and
Hudson Scheres picked up his third save of the season as the WolfPack took the game 7-4. A two-run home run from
Matt Olsen was the turning point in the game as the 'Pack turned what was a 4-3 deficit into a 7-4 lead with four runs in the frame.
GAME 4: WOLFPACK 5, CASCADES 0
The final game of the weekend was all about the work on the mound. First-year pitcher
Kolby Lukinchuk pitched all nine innings of the contest, allowing zero runs and striking out a whopping ten batters to earn his second win of the season. Lead-off man
Carter Spencer went 3-3 from the dish with an RBI and four runs in the fourth inning was all the offence Lukinchuk needed on the day.
