"After a search that included candidates from around the world, we couldn't be happier to welcome Chad and his family to the WolfPack," said Atkinson. "His years of experience in the Canada West conference are a huge asset. He knows what it takes to construct a successful program both on and off the court and we are excited for him to continue building on the legacy of excellence that is WolfPack men's basketball."
"I am very grateful and truly honoured to have been given the opportunity to join WolfPack Athletics and Thompson Rivers University," said Jacoboson. "I am so thankful to the WolfPack leadership team for believing in me and providing me the opportunity to lead and continue to build upon the strong foundation and past success of the program. I am looking forward to getting the chance to work with our student-athletes, WolfPack athletics staff, and the Thompson Rivers University community."
Prior to taking the lead assistant role with the Huskies, Jacobson was also an assistant coach with the program for two years. During his nine seasons in Saskatchewan, Jacobson and the Huskies qualified for the Canada West postseason seven times, earning 101 conference victories over that time frame and qualifying for the U SPORTS National Championship tournament three times.
Jacobson also brings experience coaching at the professional level, having served as both head and assistant coach of the Saskatchewan Rattlers in the Canadian Elite Basketball League.
Prior to joining the Huskies, Jacobson served as head coach at Neelin High School in his hometown of Brandon, MB and also spent a season as an assistant coach with the Brandon University Bobcats.
A standout on the court as a player, Jacobson initially went to Minot State University where he played with the Beavers for three seasons. Returning to Brandon for his final two seasons of eligibility, Jacobson helped the Bobcats to a runner-up finish at the CIS National Championship and was named the university's male athlete of the year in 2007.
"Being able to coach in a program and at an institution where coaches and student-athletes are provided the opportunities, support, and strong leadership in order to achieve success both on and off the court means so much to me," said Jacobson. "My family and I are thrilled to join the WolfPack and excited to become a part of the community and to be able to call Kamloops home."
