Mayan unveiled as first men’s basketball recruit of 2023-24 class

KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team and new head coach Chad Jacobson are pleased to announce Josh Mayan as their first recruit for the 2023-24 season.

Already with close ties to the program, Mayan is cousins with current member of the 'Pack, Asher Mayan – who this past season finished second on the team in scoring and rebounding.

"Having my cousin Asher at TRU has definitely played a huge role in my decision to come join the WolfPack," said Josh Mayan. "He's helped out a lot during the process and has told me nothing but great things about the school and program here at TRU."

A product of Richmond, Mayan joins the WolfPack from A.R. MacNeill Secondary.

"We are excited to have Josh join the WolfPack men's basketball program for the upcoming 2023-2024 season," said Jacobson. "Josh is a very skilled young player who brings the ability to shoot the basketball at a high rate to our team. More importantly Josh is a high-character young man who will be a great fit and represent the program on and off the court the right way every day."

With the ability to play both guard and forward, Mayan is a player that brings effort on both ends of the floor and takes pride in rebounding and defence.

"I chose to come to TRU and join the 'Pack because I believe that I'm going to grow the most both as a student-athlete and as a person here," said Mayan. "I also really like the facilities on campus, especially the Tournament Capital Centre."

Leading his A.R. MacNeill Ravens squad this past season, Mayan was a standout at the 3A BC Boys Provincial Championship where he helped his team to a tenth-place finish.

He poured in over 100 points over the four games at the tournament, knocking down 16 three-pointers in the process.

Entering the arts program with an eye on one day completing an education degree and becoming a teacher, Mayan will join the 'Pack for the upcoming season.

"I can't wait to join Coach Jacobson and the rest of the Wolfpack program," said Mayan.
