Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – It's set to be a spooky season-opener for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team that plays their first regular season game this Thursday on Halloween night inside the TCC at 7:30 p.m.

Following that home-opener against the UBC Okanagan Heat, the 'Pack will hit the road and face the UNBC Timberwolves for a Sunday matinee in Prince George.

A WolfPack squad that features six players in their fourth or fifth year of eligibility are led into the season by second-year head coach Chad Jacobson.

The 'Pack played against top Canada West competition throughout their preseason schedule and have been led by third-year guard Cyrus Harrison in both points-per-game (15.4) and rebounds-per-game (6) in their five contests.

TRU feature a good mix of new and returning faces on the roster with the aforementioned veteran players being joined by seven new players, including three that have previous post-secondary playing experience.

The WolfPack compiled a record of 6-14 last season and finished just outside the Canada West playoff picture. With a new schedule format this season that features primarily B.C. opponents, the good news for fans of the 'Pack is that four of those wins came against teams within the province.

Like the 'Pack Kelowna finished just outside of the postseason with an identical record of 6-14. UBCO played just three preseason games and fell in all three of those contests.

The Timberwolves finished tenth in the conference last season with a record of 9-11 before embarking upon a playoff run for the ages. UNBC upset the UBC Thunderbirds and Manitoba Bisons en route to earning a Canada West bronze medal.
