Cascades outlast WolfPack in tight affair

QUICK FIRE
  • A close contest came right down to the final moments as the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team fell by a tally of 81-73 to the UFV Cascades inside the TCC Friday night.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Dami Farinloye did a little bit of everything for TRU. The guard out of Winnipeg scored a team-high 16 points while also adding seven rebounds and three assists. Cyrus Harrison was 4-7 from the floor en route to 13 points while Steve Stinson finished with 12 points and three assists.
  • Clay Kurtz went 11-14 from the floor to lead all scorers with 26 points for UFV. Takeshi Croke added 17 points and six assists while Dario Lopez added 16 points of his own.
     
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A back-and-forth first quarter saw the two teams knotted up at 18-18 through the opening ten minutes. TRU shot 50 per cent from the floor as a team and Evan Smith had six early points for the 'Pack. Croke responded with eight for the Cascades.
  • UFV began to eke out a lead in the second quarter. The Cascades caught fire from the floor while TRU's shooters went cold as the visitors won the frame 26-18. UFV went on an 18-8 run throughout the opening portion of the quarter to help them hold an eight-point lead at the half.
  • Quick buckets from Farinloye, Harrison, Thomas Olsen and Stinson in the third quarter saw TRU storm back to make the lead just 49-46. That was as close as they would come to evening the score however as eight points from Kurtz over the final five minutes in the frame gave UFV the 59-50 edge heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Asher Mayan and Denys Bachurin both had six points in the final frame and the 'Pack cut the Cascades' lead to just four on multiple occasions but some timely defending and clutch shooting down the stretch allowed the visitors to pull out the victory..
NOTABLE
  • The loss drops TRU to 2-3 while UFV moves to 3-2.
  • In a game that came down to just a few possessions, UFV won the battle on the boards by a tally of 38-31.
  • The WolfPack got 29 points off their bench compared to UFV's 11.
