Dominant fourth fires WolfPack past Cascades

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team saved their best for last Saturday night, outscoring the UFV Cascades by ten points in the fourth quarter to run away with a 71-54 victory inside the TCC.
 
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Steve Stinson dropped a career-high 24 points, along with four rebounds and two massive steals to lead the WolfPack to victory. Simon Crossfield was all over the court, scoring 16 huge points, including a deep three-pointer from the logo in the fourth quarter. Crossfield also came down with 10 rebounds and three steals to record the double-double. Denys Bachurin added 10 points and 2 assists to the WolfPack win.
  • Dario Lopez went 7-9 from the floor leading UFV with 21 points and an 83 per cent free throw percentage, going 5-6 from the line. Ismael Hernandez added 14 points and 6 rebounds of his own.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A close battle in the first half had the WolfPack and the Cascades going bucket-for-bucket, with both teams shooting around 40 per cent from the floor. The teams headed into the second quarter tied 19-19. That battle continued throughout the second quarter with Hernandez giving the Cascades a narrow 32-30 lead, when he scored a tough bucket with 14 seconds left in the half.
  • The WolfPack defence came out in the second half fired up, holding UFV to only eight points in the third quarter. Stinson and Crossfield dropped a combined 11 points in the third quarter to bring the game to 47-40 in favour of the 'Pack.
  • The fourth quarter showed a dominant team effort from the trio of Stinson, Crossfield and Bachurin who scored a combined 22 points in the fourth to lead the WolfPack to a convincing 71-54 victory over the Cascades.
 
NOTABLE
  • The win brings TRU up to 3-3 and drops UFV down to 3-3, leaving the two teams tied for third in the Pacific Division.
  • Stinson's 24 points is new a career-high for the guard from San Diego, CA.
  • The WolfPack bench outscored the Cascades' bench 43-8.
 
UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will head down to Langley next week to take on the Trinity Western Spartans in a double header on Nov. 22-23.
