No. 2 Thunderbirds control proceedings late in victory over ‘Pack

QUICK FIRE
  • It was defeat inside the TCC Saturday night for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team that were taken down by the UBC Thunderbirds by a tally of 80 to 61.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Dami Farinloye had a team-high 17 points for the 'Pack, followed by Cyrus Harrison who poured in 15 on 5-7 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Asher Mayan added 13 for TRU.
  • Nikola Guzina had a game-high 24 points for UBC. Adam Olsen added 13 and Gus Goerzen 12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Harrison powered the 'Pack attack early with six points in the first quarter. The Thunderbirds responded by shooting over 50 per cent from the floor as a team however to give the visitors a 22-14 edge after the opening ten minutes.
  • The WolfPack offence came to life in the second quarter as the team knocked down seven of their 11 attempts in the frame. Harrison and Farinloye both had five points and a layup from Reuben Wright cut the T-Birds lead to 34-32 with two-and-a-half minutes left in the half. The final ten minutes belonged to the T-Birds however as they ended the frame on a 10-1 run to lead 44-33 at the half.
  • UBC put the game out of doubt to start the second half on a 7-0 run en route to scoring 21 points in the quarter and taking a dominant 65-47 lead into the fourth.
  • From there the Thunderbirds were able to run out the clock.
NOTABLE
  • The turnover battle went the way of UBC as the visitors scored 27 points off 27 TRU turnovers.
  • Farinloye's 17 points were the most he's scored in his young TRU career.
  • The loss drops the 'Pack to 2-2 on the season while UBC climbs to 4-0.
  • UBC is ranked No. 2 in the nation.
