Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack, Sydney Sanghara

Massive third quarter powers ‘Pack past TWolves

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team outscored the visiting UNBC Timberwolves by a score of 23-6 in the third quarter en route to taking the 79-65 victory inside the Tournament Capital Centre Friday night.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Dami Farinloye led the WolfPack in scoring with a game-high 24 point and finished just one rebound shy of a double-double with nine. Asher Mayan added to the scoresheet with 16 points and five rebounds. Cyrus Harrison netted 10 points of his own to go along with four rebounds.
  • Evgeny Baukin led the scoring for the Timberwolves with 21 points and four rebounds. Josh Gillespie was able to earn himself a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to go along with his three blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The WolfPack got off to a slow start in the first with UNBC leading 19-10. A 9-1 run for the 'Pack from Cyrus Harrison and Dami Farinloye pulled TRU back into the game as UNBC led at the end of the first by only a single point (20-19).
  • The second quarter was the slowest frame of the night for both teams with each only netting 15 points. Mayan and Steve Stinson led the 'Pack in scoring in the second with four points apiece but three pointers from Baukin, Gillespie and Isaiah Bias late in the frame saw UNBC hold onto their slim lead, up 35-34 at the half.
  • Thompson Rivers had a dominant third quarter – kicking it off with a 14-0 run over the Timberwolves, punctuated by a three courtesy of Stinson. The WolfPack defence was able to hold UNBC to just 6 points in the third quarter. Evan Smith and Mayan led the 'Pack with 6 points apiece to help secure a 57-41 lead at the end of the third.
  • The fourth quarter saw the Timberwolves come out with some renewed energy, going on a 7-0 run – five of the seven points from Baukin, with the 'Pack in a scoring drought. Mayan ended the drought with a corner three that gave TRU back the momentum. The WolfPack were able to find their rhythm again and take the game 79-65.

NOTABLE
  • The win moves TRU to 7-8 and UNBC to 1-12. TRU is holding fourth place in the Pacific Division.
  • Farinloye's 24 point night marks the second game in a row that the second-year guard from Winnipeg has broken the 20 point plateau following his 27 point effort last Saturday.
  • The WolfPack have won their last three games in a row against UNBC.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will take on the Timberwolves again tomorrow during the WolfPack's Senior Night, Saturday January 25th at 6pm in the Tournament Capital Centre.
