Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack, Sydney Sanghara

WolfPack explode for triple digits to defeat TWolves

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team saved their best for last, tallying a season-high 103 points in a dominant 103-75 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves in what will be the squad's final home game of 2024-25.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Six WolfPack players hit double-digits tonight in the TCC, including three graduating seniors. Senior Simon Crossfield had a game-high 22 points, hitting six threes from beyond the arc, to go along with his eight board and four steals. Dami Farinloye added 15 points and two steals to the WolfPack scoresheet. Senior Asher Mayan had 14 points with five rebounds and two steals. Steve Stinson had 12 points and six assists. Cyrus Harrison had 12 points and six rebounds while senior Denys Bachurin added 11 points for the 'Pack.
  • Evgeny Baukin led the scoring for the Timberwolves with 20 points and five rebounds. Isaiah Bias had 19 points to go along with five assists and five rebounds. Marcus Wilson added 13 points to the scoresheet for UNBC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The WolfPack were dominant right from the opening tip, outscoring the Timberwolves 33-13 in the frame with nine points coming from Bachurin, who went three-for-three from beyond the arc. As a team the WolfPack shot over 61 per cent from the floor in the opening ten minutes.
  • The Timberwolves tried to shrink the gap in the second quarter, going on a 11-4 run to kick it off thanks to five points from Ben White and three apiece from Baukin and Marcus Wilson. The WolfPack were able to stabilize from there however and carried a 15 point lead into the halftime break.
  • The third quarter saw all five WolfPack starters hit double-digits as the team refused to take their foot off the gas. Mayan led the 'Pack with eight points in the third quarter to extend the lead to 87-56.
  • The fourth quarter saw the Timberwolves get back into rhythm with a 10-2 run spearheaded by Baukin. Unfortunately for UNBC, the 'Pack quickly regained their momentum to go on their own 12-0 run, accentuated by a trio of trey's courtesy of Crossfield to take the WolfPack over the century mark in the 103-75 victory.
NOTABLE
  • The win moves TRU back to .500 on the season. They hold a record of 8-8 and move into a tie with the TWU Spartans for third in the division – though TWU holds a pair of games in hand.
  • Crossfield shot 75% from beyond the arc hitting 6-8 threes en route to setting a new career high with his 22 points.
  • The 103 points that the 'Pack scored is the most they've tallied as a team dating back to February of 2018.
  • Seniors Evan Smith, Denys Bachurin, Simon Crossfield and team captain Asher Mayan were all honoured in a pre-game senior night ceremony.
UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will go on the road next weekend to take on the UBC Okanagan Heat in a double header on January 31st and February 1st.
