Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

Fourth quarter dominance sends WolfPack to victory over Heat

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team started their 2025-26 season with a rivalry match up victory as they outscored the UBC Okanagan Heat 24-5 in the fourth en route to the 76-57 victory.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Making his WolfPack debut, Jayden Stephens led all scorers on the night with 23 points while also pulling down eight rebounds. Dami Farinloye recorded the double-double with 17 and ten while fifth-year forward Thomas Olsen added ten points and nine rebounds of his own.
  • Jalen Shirley led the Heat with 17 points while Lamine Conde added 15.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A back-and-forth game through three quarters, the WolfPack completely turned the tide in the fourth. Entering the final frame knotted up at 52-52, TRU scored the first 19 points of the final quarter - including seven from Stephens and six from Jayden Green – allowing the visitors to pull away to a lead they wouldn't surrender in the game.
  • In that fourth quarter TRU held UBCO to making just two field goals while also forcing the Heat into five turnovers.
NOTABLE
  • Not only does the win see TRU start their season 1-0 but it also gives the WolfPack a commanding 3-0 edge over UBCO in the men's version of the Presidents' Cup - the annual battle between the two school in head-to-head games the schools play in soccer, basketball and volleyball.
  • Jayden Stephens, Jayden Green, Jaeden Bynoe, Earl Akene and Chris Piotrowski all made their WolfPack debuts in the game.
  • The WolfPack won the battle on the glass 46-29.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach Chad Jacobson)
  • "We knew coming into this game that it was going to be tough. UBCO is a scrappy, hard-nosed team that competes and they certainly did that tonight."
  • "At the end of the day for us, the difference was just our willingness to defend and our overall compete level. We really got after it defensively in the fourth quarter, we finished plays with defensive rebounds and were able to get out and run for some easy scores to break things open late."
  • ON STANDOUTS IN THE GAME "Jayden Stephens obviously has the ability to score the ball for us in a lot of different ways. Dami Farinloye is just a really solid player, he's smart, crafty and athletic and can use his length to his advantage. I thought the real difference-maker for us was Thomas Olsen, I thought he went into the game and was a huge spark both defensively and on the glass and guys just fed off his energy.

UP NEXT
  • The game was the only one of the weekend for a WolfPack side that will hit the road again for their next action against the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
