Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – Back in the Canada West postseason for the eighth time in program history, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team will hit the road this weekend as they travel to Winnipeg looking to embark upon a playoff run.

First up for the 'Pack is play-in game against the Alberta Golden Bears taking place at 2:00 p.m. pt on Friday, Feb. 21. A victory in that game will see them advance to the conference quarter-finals against the host Manitoba Bisons at 5:00 p.m. pt on Saturday, Feb. 22.

Entering the postseason with a record of 10-10, their highest win total since the 2019-20 campaign, TRU finished fourth in the pacific division to earn the seventh seed for the playoffs.

Holding an identical record of 10-10, Alberta clocked in at fifth in the prairie division and are seeded tenth.

Four-straight wins over the UBC Okanagan Heat and UNBC Timberwolves in the middle of their second semester schedule was crucial for the WolfPack's season. While TRU finished their 2024-25 campaign with a pair of losses in Victoria, they proved that they belonged with the top teams in the country with a narrow loss in their regular season finale to the three-time defending conference champion UVic Vikes. The final score of 73-64 in favour of the Vikes doesn't tell the whole story of the game as TRU led for much of the contest.

After starting the season 3-8, Alberta rallied down the stretch to make the postseason finishing as winners in six of their last seven games. They handily swept the MacEwan Griffins in their most recent action.

Awaiting the winner of TRU vs. Alberta for a Canada West quarter-final matchup are the host Manitoba Bisons. Manitoba won the prairie division with a record of 16-4 and finished the season ranked ninth in Canada.

TRU and Alberta met earlier this season in exhibition play with the Golden Bears squeaking out a 72-64 victory inside the TCC.
