Kamloops – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team and head coach
Chad Grimm are pleased to announce another addition to the squad ahead of the 2025-26 season with the news that Shyanne Jarrad has committed to the 'Pack.
"I chose to join the 'Pack because it offered the perfect balance between pursuing my academic goals and continuing my passion for volleyball at a highly competitive level," said Jarrad. "The opportunity to represent TRU in athletics while earning a degree was a challenge I welcomed, knowing it would push me on and off the court. I was drawn to the strong sense of community, the support systems, and the chance to develop leadership and time-management skills."
A 6-0 middle blocker from Strathmore, AB, Jarrad has experience playing for both Team Alberta as well as the Jr. Dinos Volleyball Club where she was coached by WolfPack aluma Abby Spratt.
"Shyanne is a middle blocker with good length and she is quick," said Grimm. "I first found out about Shyanne through Abby Spratt. Abby talked to me about not only the kind of athlete Shyanne is, but also the type of person she is and her development throughout the year. That put Shyanne on our radar and pushed her up our ladder in terms of being someone that we think will be a great fit culturally as well as on the court."
Playing volleyball since the age of 11, Jarrad played locally in Strathmore for three years before she joined the Dinos and not only made the Calgary team but also played an age group up with the U17's.
"That experience challenged me and pushed me to elevate my game," said Jarrad. "Since then I have continued to grow as a high-level athlete, playing with the Dinos Volleyball Club and even earning the opportunity to represent Team Alberta during my U17 year. Each step of the way has shaped me into the driven and passionate player I am today."
It was through playing for Spratt, the WolfPack's U SPORTS record holder in both aces and assists, that Jarrad began seeing playing for the 'Pack as a possibility.
"I was familiar with TRU through following U SPORTS volleyball and Abby Spratt was instrumental in helping me land at TRU," said Jarrad.
"Having someone like Abby that has been in our program and knows what I am looking for is invaluable," added Grimm. "Just because she's in the trenches and might see some things that I won't see when I'm watching games."
Jarrad plans on studying arts at TRU.
"TRU is a school I've longed to go to for a while with my love for the mountains and the incredible volleyball team which I'm so grateful to be a part of. After my first phone call with Coach Chad, I knew this was the place for me to grow as a student and an athlete."
Jarrad is the second recruit announced for the upcoming season for a WolfPack team that was nationally ranked in the U SPORTS Top 10 for the entirety of last season. She joins the previously announced Lauren Junck.
