KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team picked up a pair of wins and received valuable contributions from throughout the entire lineup in Langley this past weekend. Facing some of the top teams in the nation, the WolfPack came out on the top of the consolation side of the tournament.
GAME 1:
TRU 1, ALB 3 (25-16, 32-30, 25-23, 25-22)
Up against the defending CW champion Alberta Pandas to start the tournament, TRU more than held their own against the national bronze-medallists. The 'Pack pushed the match to four sets and lost the final two by just a combined five points.
"I thought we played solid. Libero
Olivia Andulajevic was solid defensively, setter
Libby Meldrum ran a good offence and we kept in there, so overall it was good."
GAME 2:
TRU 3, CGY 1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18)
Taking on the Calgary Dinos, in the consolation semifinal, TRU controlled the contest in a 3-1 victory.
"Everyone on the roster got significant playing time and everyone did their jobs well. We had some pretty good service pressure and put them in trouble. I'm happy with how the girls competed."
GAME 3:
TRU 3, UFV 1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22)
Wrapping up the weekend against Fraser Valley, TRU managed to close out the tournament with a victory as they took down a strong UFV squad in four sets.
"Lots of people got the chance to play.
Madison Maichin played the whole game at libero and did a great job. There were some ups and downs but we managed to find a way to keep ourselves in the game. We were down in the fourth set but managed to turn it around and close it out, so overall a good way to end the weekend."
These will be the lone official exhibition games on TRU's schedule as they will now play scrimmages in preparation for their Canada West campaign that gets underway on Friday, Oct. 24 in Edmonton against the MacEwan Griffins.
