Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack hang tough with No. 1 Vikes before fading in fourth

QUICK FIRE
  • They trailed by just single digits for much of the night, but the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team couldn't close the gap in an 88-63 loss to the nationally No. 1 ranked UVic Vikes Saturday night.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Steve Stinson was the leading scorer for TRU, finishing the night with 16 points and five assists. Dami Farinloye went 7-13 from the floor en route to 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
  • Ethan Boag was effective for the Vikes with a game-high 21 points in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The WolfPack dominated the game early. Farinloye had seven points and Reuben Wright four in the opening five minutes of play as the 'Pack jumped out to a quick 16-3 lead. UVic, the reigning U SPORTS National Champions, found a response, ending the quarter on a 20-6 run to lead 23-22 after the opening quarter.
  • Stinson came to life in the second to keep the 'Pack right with UVic. The fourth-year guard from San Diego scored eight of TRU's 14 points in the quarter, including a four-point play that knotted the score up at 32-32. TRU's defence, which is third in the conference in points against per-game, kept the 'Pack close at the half with UVic leading just 41-36.
  • It was rookie Cason Scott's turn to lead the way offensively in the third. The Kamloops product scored a team-high seven points and Jaeden Bynoe knocked down a three-pointer with just seconds left in the frame as the Vikes led 67-57 entering the fourth quarter.
  • UVic started the fourth on a 9-2 run and never looked back as the hosts pulled away late for the victory.

NOTABLE
  • TRU is now 10-8 on the season where they sit in fourth place in the Pacific Division.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will be on a bye next week before wrapping up their 2025-26 regular season schedule with a pair of games in Prince George against the UNBC Timberwolves Feb. 6-7.
