Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

Complete team effort sends WolfPack past TWolves

QUICK FIRE
  • Contributions from throughout the lineup led the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team to a commanding 77-60 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves Friday night in Prince George.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Four different players hit double-digits in scoring for the 'Pack with two more finishing on nine points. Rookie Cason Scott tied with a team-high 15 points on an efficient 5-7 shooting from the floor while also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Jayden Stephens added a further 15 for TRU while Gavin Reis (12), Dami Farinloye (11), Steve Stinson (9) and Jaeden Bynoe (9) rounded out the top scorers. Jayden Green chipped in with six assists and five steals on the night.
  • Chris Ainsley went 7-13 from the floor for the Timberwolves to tally a game-high 18 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • TRU held a slim lead after a close first frame. Stephens had seven points and Scott five as the two teams traded buckets for much of the first with the 'Pack holding a 19-18 lead after the opening ten minutes of play.
  • The WofPack increased that lead in the second quarter thanks in large part to some shutdown defence that limited UNBC to just ten points in the frame. Six different members of the 'Pack scored a bucket as TRU led by as many as 14 en route to a 36-28 advantage heading into the break.
  • UNBC came out firing to start the second half, going on a 17-5 run, powered by seven points from Ainsley, that not only erased the WolfPack lead but saw the hosts grab a 45-41 edge of their own. The 'Pack were able to right the ship however as Reis scored six points in a 10-0 TRU run that put the WolfPack back in front by six heading into the fourth quarter.
  • The WolfPack dominated the fourth to put the game away, outscoring UNBC 26-15 in the final frame. Stephens with seven points and Farinloye with six helped TRU solidify their lead en route to the 17-point victory.

NOTABLE
  • Now with a record of 11-8 on the year, the WolfPack know that they will be in the Canada West playoffs next weekend and just have to wait for results around the league to determine their destination and opponent.
  • The 11 Canada West victories that TRU has secured is their most in a season since going 11-9 back in 2019-20.
  • Now with 172 points on the year, Cason Scott sits fifth in program history for most points scored by a rookie in a Canada West campaign.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will wrap up their regular season schedule tomorrow night in Prince George when they take on these very same Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m.
