MSOC draws UBCO in first stage of Presidents Cup

Emmanuel Aniogbe at UBCO
Box Score The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack dominated the second half of play but couldn't reach the scoresheet in Canada West men's soccer action Thursday (Oct 10) in Kelowna, BC.
The Pack and arch rival University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat played to a scoreless draw. It was the first stage of the annual "President's Cup" series between the two teams.
It also put a crimp in the WolfPack's march towards a third straight Canada West playoff spot
 SYNOPSIS

The WolfPack had 12 shots in the second half including six which directly tested UBCO keeper Nicholas Reitsma (3rd year, Kelowna, BC).   Twice, Thompson Rivers hit the cross bar or goal post. Both those chances coming off the boot of Justin Donaldson (5th year, midfielder, Kamloops, BC).  Donaldson had seven shots on the night.
Reitsma made six saves on the evening compared to WolfPack keeper Jackson Gardner (Chilliwack, BC) who made two.
The WolfPack move to 3-5-5 on the year while the Heat are now 6-5-4/

COMMENTS BY COACH  JOHN ANTULOV:

"Thought it was a very good tough defensive match.  I thought we were able to hold very strong defensively. I was proud of the effort and mindset of the team today. First half , we weren't able to create much going forward. I thought in the second half we created some good chances and had some good opportunities while staying tight defensively. We are still alive. The margin for error (for making the playoffs) is really tight so we have to make sure we come out and have that same effort and mindset on Saturday."

UP NEXT:

Thompson Rivers and UBCO will head to Kamloops for the second leg of this home and home series. They will meet head to head on the Warner Rentals field at Hillside Stadium on Saturday (Oct 12).  Kick off will be 2 pm.  That will be the final home match of the regular season for Thompson Rivers. They will honor their lone fifth year player, Justin Donaldson (midfield, Kamloops, BC) at half time.

The WolfPack will close out their regular season on the road the following weekend (Oct 19-20) as they face the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves in Prince George, BC.
